Number 2 Stuffie

My Number 1 Stuffie seemed a little lonely, so let me introduce you to his buddy, the Number 2 Stuffie!

This will be the perfect photo prop or nursery decoration. I hope you enjoy him as much as I do!

Notes:

  • This pattern has not been tested. If you find any errors, please let me know by shooting me a DM on Instagram!
  • Numbers in parentheses at end of rows indicate total stitch count in those rows.
  • Each panel is created by starting at the base and working up through the top. To create the hanging part of the 2, you’ll rotate your panel and reattach your yarn (pictures included below).
  • Stuffie is constructed by making two identical panels and seaming together.

Tools and Yarn Needed:

  • Worsted weight yarn (less than half a skein) – I used Red Heart Super Saver
  • Small bit of black yarn for mouth
  • 5mm crochet hook – I always use my Clover Amour hook
  • 9mm safety eyes
  • Tapestry needle
  • Polyfil stuffing

Stitches Used:

  • Ch – chain
  • Sl St – slip stitch
  • FSC – foundation single crochet
  • SC – single crochet
  • Decrease – single crochet two together
  • Increase – two single crochets in same stitch

Fasten off.

Turn your panel upside down and reattach to back bump of last chain in row 27.

From here, you’ll be going back down the rows to make the overhang of the 2. If the row numbers below don’t make sense to you, just be sure you’ve got 8 rows in your hanging portion.
Row 27
: increase in first bump, sc 9, turn (11)
Row 26: ch 1, decrease, sc across, turn (10)
Row 25: ch 1, sc 8, decrease, turn (9)
Row 24: ch 1, decrease, sc across, turn (8)
Row 23: ch 1, sc 6, decrease, turn (7)
Row 22-20: ch 1, sc across, turn (7)

Fasten off

Making the face:

Attach safety eyes to your second panel about 3 stitches apart in row 30.
Using your black yarn, stitch a small mouth below the eyes.

Assembly:
Layer your pieces facing up with the second layer on top (so your stuffie is looking up at you). Using your working yarn, begin to SC around, putting 3 stitches in each corner. Stuff with polyfil as you go.

Sl st to first sc of border and fasten off.

Weave in your ends, and you’re finished! If you share on Instagram, please let me see by tagging #sarahsyarn or @sarahsyarn and using #numberstuffie.
